Unlock the Benefits of Carbon Capture and Storage with the 45Q Tax Credit
In 2008, Congress enacted the 45Q credit for carbon oxide (CO or CO2) sequestration, which provided a lucrative tax credit to carbon emitters to capture and use or store carbon oxides as opposed to releasing them into the atmosphere. Congress extended and increased 45Q via the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, leading more emitters than ever to consider carbon capture, usage, and storage (CCUS). The credit is now up to $85 per MT for emissions capture and $160 per MT for direct air capture.
Guest Panelist, Richard Esposito is a highly respected leader in the energy industry with over 30 years of experience. He has multiple degrees, including a Ph.D. in engineering with a dissertation focus on CO2-enhanced oil recovery and geologic storage in saline formations. Richard is currently leading R&D on energy-related issues such as carbon management, bulk energy storage, and geothermal power. He serves as a graduate student advisor and has held positions in various organizations, including chairmanship of the CO2 Storage Chapter for the National Petroleum Council's report.
